In our small class size, seminar-style program, students learn Python for backend web development and gain familiarity with its data toolkit (pandas, numpy, matplotlib, jupyter) as well as its extensive standard library. We teach SQL relational database design & queries as well as web server configuration and deployment. Students complete their projects as live websites, visible to the world.
In addition to learning the web stack, students will learn concepts from computer science, with an emphasis on their application to coding interview questions.
During the final phase, students develop two projects, at least one of which must be a team effort. Projects often involve students’ prior expertise in their field and instructor-guided study in technologies beyond the standard curriculum. Past student project work has included applications in FinTech, Artificial Intelligence, Game Development, MedTech, Blockchain, and others.
The program is composed of three phases.
- Phase 1: A four-week intensive course in core Python programming skills & concepts and various areas of application.
- Phase 3: Six-week project development phase in which students build two portfolio-quality projects to display to potential employers.
The program fosters an environment of teamwork and collaboration. Students create three projects which are part of a portfolio that they showcase to potential employers. Some students have the opportunity to work on projects to aid companies in the real world. Past projects have included:
- MoneyMusic: music recommendation engine creating playlists based on a user’s Spotify library
- allows businesses to interact with their community via artificial intelligence chatbots
- Medical Map: Proof of Concept for a real MedTech startup
- PolitiPic: Predicts voter outcomes using facial recognition
- FlexInvest: crowdfunds Wall Street investments
- MarketTracker: graphs stock prices related to tweets
- Jade Lizard: options strategy to maximize returns
Throughout the program, our career services team works closely with students to get them hired by top companies upon graduation. Please see Outcomes for details.

After, graduating from college, I felt that I didn’t have the hands on experience that a lot of companies are seeking. Byte Academy not only gave me the full stack development skills; they also gave me the finance education that allowed me to find and thrive in the FinTech industry. Upon leaving the bootcamp I found a position as an python developer in a startup company, called Enso Financial in the fintech industry. After, the company saw a successful acquisition, I left the company to work at one of the world's leading investing banks JPMorgan Chase & Co. For anyone thinking about learning to code, they should learn the basic and see if they truly enjoy it. And know that programming isn’t a solo act, it takes a team. Thats why learning programming in a group setting works the best. While attending byte I did not only learn to program but also build friendships that followed me through out my career dis far.
I can't say enough good things about Byte Academy. From the admissions, to the instructors, and everywhere in between this is a great bootcamp. The environment is very relaxed, while also maintaining a professional atmoshphere. I learned enough to build full stack apps, and if I am unsure of something, I now have the know-how to research and learn something new. I would recommend Byte Academy to anyone, and ecourage anyone who is on the fence, to go ahead and enroll!
I come from a computer science background. I graduated college in December 2015 and joined Byte in January 2016. I wanted to be a stronger developer so i wanted to join a boot camp. I was pretty skeptical of where I wanted to go, and I remember reading the reviews on this site, and becoming more skeptical, not knowing if Byte would be a great experience. However, because I wanted to learn python/django I went with it and joined byte. Jeff was my instructor for the three phases; he was a very helpful and great person along with all the other instructors at Byte. Byte is probably the best choice I’ve made in my life so far. It was much better than just having a degree in computer science. If you are thinking of join Byte I suggest you come in and just talk to some of the students that are in the later phases. Don’t even bother with speaking to the heads of Byte. Speak to the students and find out for yourself. I graduated Byte in April 2016, and I am so glad I chose byte and worked with a language like Python. Facts: -The curriculum is pretty hard but manageable, also there are ways to catch up if you slack off. -The space is not the biggest They do have lots of monitors and tables Instructors are very helpful. They all are willing to help you with a problem until you understand completely They are open 24/7 so you are able to come in and code weekends or late night ( I really love that about them) There are many other small features, like presentations, which help you prepare for the job world. You will be in mid down, lots of food places, great view. They have big name companies (Bloomberg, Ibm...) that actively take resumes of graduates from Byte. very helpful with resumes, cover letters, and preparing for interviews.
“Byte Academy became a bridge towards my career in programming. A very fast-paced, challenging program was just what I needed to learn coding. In my opinion the biggest advantage is that it teaches Python! My relationship with BA continues past my graduation and I am very happy I chose Byte!"
